The Importance of Clean Beauty for Black Women: Aigner Bacon's Story

Meet Aigner Bacon: A Clean Beauty Advocate

Aigner Bacon is a public health graduate student, a Clinical Research Coordinator, and a mother to her son, Amari. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Gwynedd Mercy University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Global Health at Drexel University with a minor in Maternal and Child Health. Aigner is a Philadelphia native who is passionate about advocating for Black women's health.

Aigner's Clean Beauty Journey

Aigner's personal health struggles inspired her to switch to clean beauty products. In middle school, she was diagnosed with Graves Disease, which caused her body to produce too much thyroid hormone. As she grew older, Aigner became increasingly aware of the impact that personal care products could have on her health. After becoming a mother in early 2021, she made the switch to clean beauty products for both herself and her son.

When asked about how clean beauty has affected her skin and overall health, Aigner shared that her weight and hair were the biggest challenges for her. But, after joining the track team and cheerleading in high school, Aigner discovered the importance of keeping her hair moisturized and in protective styles.

Now, she uses Jamaican Castor Oil to oil her scalp at least once a week, which helps her hair grow long and stay healthy.

Finding the Right Clean Beauty Products

Aigner emphasized the importance of finding the right products that work for her and her specific needs, rather than simply following the latest trends. Her advice is to do research and look for sample sizes before committing to a product. She also avoids products with strong fragrances and looks for products that are sulfate-free.

Her favorite clean beauty products include Jamaican Castor Oil, which she gets from her local beauty supply store and prefers in a glass bottle. She also uses a silicone face brush for cleansing, the brand Cetaphil for her facial cleanser, Thayer's Natural Remedy Witch Hazel with Rose Water Toner, and natural cocoa butter or Ponds moisturizer for hydration.

Impact on Lifestyle and Wellness Routine

Using clean beauty products has had a tremendous impact on Aigner's life, both physically and mentally. She no longer feels the need to follow trends or use excessive amounts of products on her skin. Instead, she believes that simplicity is key, and she feels more confident in her natural beauty. Aigner's advice for Black women who are just starting their clean beauty journey is to trust the process and be patient. Clean beauty is not an overnight solution, but with time and confidence, the effects will be worth it.

The Clean Beauty Industry and Black Women

As a Black woman in the clean beauty industry, Aigner has noticed significant changes in recent years. More Black-owned beauty suppliers are expanding, and campaigns and commercials are becoming more diverse. She believes that the industry should continue to push forward and break barriers for Black women in the beauty industry.
