Why Should You Avoid PEGs

PEGs.

Polyethylene glycol compounds.

What are they?

They are basically raw materials from petroleum that are often contaminated by ethylene oxide.

I know - sounds like gibberish.

But it’s still important.

What are they used for?

PEGs are often used as a means to thicken products and to soften products. That is because they are moisture-carrying agents. The ugly side of that is that they also enhance a product's ability to penetrate.

Where are PEGs found?

You can find them in:

  • Skin care

  • Cosmetics

  • Baby hygiene products - think baby wipes

  • Cleansers, like home cleaning products

The problem with ethylene oxides is that it is an unlisted chemical (due to being a contaminant) that has been associated with multiple forms of cancer. In addition, this contaminant has been linked to long-term damage to our nervous systems.

Side note, it was used as nerve gas in WWI….. so yeah….

Ethylene oxide has also been known to be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane which is a known carcinogen.

Double whammy anyone??

PEGs simply don’t need to be a part of our daily routine.

And don’t forget that I said PEGs enhance the skin’s ability to absorb ingredients, so basically it is personally assisting these chemicals into your body by opening up the door.

Oh & it has been documented that using a product with PEGs on broken skin can directly cause irritation and system toxicity.

One more thing, PEGs can alter the surface tension of your skin. That means it can cause your skin to weaken in its ability to naturally keep moisture in and balance itself.

We can’t do that to our biggest organ, okay?

PEGs are synthetic petrochemicals and do not belong in our products.

Watch your skincare and hair products. They will be listed with numbers or other ingredient names - but will almost always include PEG.

Read your ingredients.
